20 Years of Kargil Victory
We all Indians celebrated the 20th victory of Kargil War on 26 July 2019. On this prestigious moment I decided to write something about it. When the first thought of writing about it came in to my mind it totally shook me. The reason behind it is the memory, that reminds us what cost our armed forces and their families have paid for this victory. Although I was not mature enough at that time, but the information that I have received from my parents, media, documentaries and other sources are enough to realize the situation of that time. Somehow, I managed to control my emotions and started writing this article.
I am confident that not even a single Indian has forgotten the Kargil war. I am even sure that the one who was not born or not mature at that time also must have heard it from their parents, or must have seen some documentaries or movies related to it.
The Kargil war was fought for almost 2 months. As usual Pakistan started the war on 3 May 1999 by sending their around 5000 soldiers illegally to the high-altitude post of Indian army, which Indian army used to leave during winter. The infiltration of Pakistan army was reported by a local shepherd to Indian Army. When Indian Army patrolling unit lead by Captain Saurabh Kalia arrived at spot to verify this, they were caught by Pakistan army unwittingly. The unit of Saurabh Kalia was tortured till death to the extent that we cannot even imagine. When their body came to India and was examined, the post mortem report shows that Saurabh Kalia eyes, many internal organs, even his private part was taken out while he was alive, from this we can conclude what type of barbarism Pakistan can do.
On May 9 1999, Pakistanis destroyed ammunition dump of our army. On 10 May 1999 infiltrators entered from Dras, Kaksar, Mushkoh region of Ladakh.
On 26 May 1999 India Airforce launched Operation White Sea to strike on Pakistan. Next day our Airforce unit with the help of Mig-27 and Mig-29 fighter jet attacked but they captured Flight Lieutenant K. Nachiketa Rao and prisoned him as Prisoner-of-War. IAF loses two fighter jets Mig-21 and Mig-27. On May 28 Pakistan shot IAF MI-17 which result in death of four air crew. Pakistan sets up attacked, bombed NH-1 on June 1. On June 5 1999 documents received from Pakistan rangers about their involvement was published in newspaper by Indian army.
Operation Vijay was launched by Indian Army. On 6 June 1999 our armed forces attacked on Pakistan by full force. On June 9 only took control over two key position in the Batalic sector. On June 11 India released an audio tape of Pakistan army chief Pervez Musharraf and Lieutenant General Aziz Khan that speaks about their illegal infiltration. On 13 June India Army secures Tololing in Dras. On June 15 present U. S President Mr. Bill Clinton asked Pakistan’s Prime Minister Mr. Nawaz Sharif to withdraw his army. Indian Army captured two vital posts Point 5060 and Point 5100 near Tiger Hill on 29th June. Indian Army attacked from three ends on 2 July. On 4 July Indian Army recaptured Tiger Hill. On July 5 our Army took control of Dras. Nawaz Sharif announces withdrawal of army as he was not having any alternative. On 7th July India recaptures Jubar Heights in Batalik. 11 July onwards Pakistan begins pullout. India captures key peaks in Batalik. On July 14 1999 Indian Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee declared Operation Vijay a success. Officially on 26 July 1999 Kargil conflict was ended. Indian Army achieve a great victory over Pakistan.
Taking about army strength of both the country, Indian Army were having 30000 soldiers in their unit whereas rival country was having only a count of 5000. According to Indian Officials Pakistan have lost their 700-1200 soldier. Despite of having enough strength also we also lost around lives of 527 soldiers
and around 1350 were seriously injured. The only reason behind these huge casualties of our armed forces was the advantage of high-altitude location rival were holding
